Service that Matters...

WACC members serve on five committees that address cultural issues, education, workforce development, human services, and community-building networks. Within this framework, the members in WACC strive to serve a broad range of closely interrelated challenges that face the West African community in Fairfax county.

 

With WACC as a partner, we provide direct services that benefit constituents of West African descent. Referals come to WACC and services are provided by individual member-organizations within the collaborative. These services include:

 

WACC is also sponsors various grassroots community events that engage the African community to encourage and create cultural engagement in our neighborhoods. Events we've supported in the past include:

  • West African Community Forum (Fairfax County)

  • Baffour Soccer Tournament Fundraiser

  • GTJ's College Summer Program

  • Various outreach presentations at local churches and civic groups

The collaborative, through it’s specialized programming, educates and provides workshops to adults and youth. Programs include:

  • Interpretation Services for Job seekers

  • Cultural & Social programming for youth

  • youth empowerment & leadership workshops

  • Resume & mock interview workshops

  • College Admissions Prep Programs

  • Financial Aid Counseling


 

WACC receives many requests and inquiries from members in the community, faith-based groups, and county agencies to provide, facilitate, and organize workshops that address the needs of the African community. Our efforts include:

  • Interpretation Services

  • Heathcare education and enrollment

  • Cultural sensitivity training

  • Mental health education & advocacy

  • County resource navigation
